The movie tells the story of a young married couple who are madly in love with each other until an unfortunate accident erased Paige’s (played by Rachel McAdams) entire memory of the last five years, including  the existence of Leo (played by Channing Tatum, her husband.

When I went to watch the movie I really had very high expectations and I thought it will be as good or perhaps better than Dear John and The Notebook. Unfortunately, it turns out that the movie was just so-so, nothing really striking aside from the fact that it was based from true events. Though I was not particularly impressed with how the movie turned out, particularly the ending which I felt was kind of lacking, I must commend the acting of McAdams and Tatum. In my personal opinion, they have channeled their roles superbly and they made the story look very much believable.

While the story has similarities with Adam Sandler’s movie ‘The 50 First Dates’ –  the amnesia part and the guy’s persistence to woo and make the girl fall in love with him all over again – The Vow definitely bring something different on the table but it could have done much better in terms of story and character development. But overall, I’d rate ‘The Vow’ 3 out of 5 stars. If you are a sucker for love stories, then you will surely love this film.

One of my favorite television shows ever, Battle Star Galactica is available on the man from one of the newer televisions streaming services known as SeeSaw. Way back when I watch the series, that wasn’t an option. If you haven’t heard about Battle Star, it’s one of the best science fiction TV shows that actually managed to reach a market of viewers that wouldn’t fall under the normal category of sci-fi viewers. The series was originally done back in the 70s, but with a tamer more upbeat message. Personally, I was a much bigger fan of the newer series. Sure it was darker, but it also dealt with a whole lot of other far more interesting storylines.

Like for instance, the whole question of what it means to be human. That’s got to be one of my favourite recurring themes that comes up from time to time in good science fiction drama. Not a lot of television series can handle it intelligently though. Galactica does it with aplomb though. It’s one of those series, though I hated to see and, it probably would’ve watched it for another five years if they continued making it.

I like to watch movies online, and here’s a few things I do find particularly funny in the movies I’ve seen of late.  Quite often, I find humor in the most unexpected places.  Take for example the movie Julie & Julia staring Meryl Streep.  A somewhat funny movie, that was meant more as a autobiography of the lady Julie that wrote a blog about working through Julia Childs famous cookbook. There was one scene in here that I found incredibly funny.  The one that culminates with Julia Child (Meryl Streep) chopping a mountain full of onions in her kitchen as her husband returns home from work.

What makes it funny though, is not that final scene, but the scenes leading up to it.  Julia has enrolled herself at a very prestigious cooking school, and found herself with the daunting taking of keeping up with an all male student body of some obviously very experienced chefs.  Even learning the simple task of rapidly chopping onions at school, is one that she barely manages to perform well in comparison to the other cooks.  But, here determination is apparent.  So, she decides to practice at home, and must have chopped bushels of onions when we see her in the kitchen.  One can only imagine how impregnated the air must be with the stinging bite of onions.  But not to be deterred, she carries on.

What makes the scene even funnier, is when her husband comes home, and is completely bowled over as he approaches the door to the kitchen.  While I found the scene hilariously funny, I must admit to being the only person in the room who did.  So, maybe it is me after all.  So, if your looking to test out your funny bone, then maybe The Spy Next Door would be a good choice.  Jackie Chan always seems to get a chuckle or two out of me.

So, it should come with no surprise, that I muchly anticipated the arrival of the television show Glee.  And, I must say it has lived up to my expectations.  That fact that it uses music from my teenage years is a bonus.  When I saw one of the original teaser trailers on YouTube featuring the song “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey, I knew I had to watch it.  But, it’s not just the music of Glee that keeps me coming back, it’s the characters.

One of the first reviews I read about Glee, described it as High School Musical with an edge.  And that’s still in my mind a pretty good definition of Glee.  But it’s not the only one.  What I like about the characters in Glee, is that their complicated.  There are very few clearly defined “good” and “bad” guys or gals.  With a few exceptions I suppose.  Our favorite cheer leading coach is pretty much a bad gal, but even she has had her moments.  When she started falling for the news anchor fella revealed a different side of her.  I think she needs like a big super villain costume with a logo from this free logo design site.

Even the kids though.  While there are a few typical “jocks” and “geeks” as minor characters, the main characters often embody a little bit of both.  The fact that in this day and age, everyone is a bit of a geek, and it’s kinda cool to be one just further muddies the one dimensional character model.  I for one think that’s kinda cool.  As I was probably leaning more towards the geek side long before it had any cool factor what so ever.  I was a member of the audio visual club in high school after all . . . yeeeech!  At least I kept my distance from the chess club.
