It sure seems like it’s taken a long time, but it seems like the big television content providers are finally starting to get the message. That message being, that we the consumers don’t want to watch television on their schedule. We want to be able to watch television on laptops, are smart phones, on our televisions, and anywhere we want, including the beach.
One of my favorite television shows ever, Battle Star Galactica is available on the man from one of the newer televisions streaming services known as SeeSaw. Way back when I watch the series, that wasn’t an option. If you haven’t heard about Battle Star, it’s one of the best science fiction TV shows that actually managed to reach a market of viewers that wouldn’t fall under the normal category of sci-fi viewers. The series was originally done back in the 70s, but with a tamer more upbeat message. Personally, I was a much bigger fan of the newer series. Sure it was darker, but it also dealt with a whole lot of other far more interesting storylines.
Like for instance, the whole question of what it means to be human. That’s got to be one of my favourite recurring themes that comes up from time to time in good science fiction drama. Not a lot of television series can handle it intelligently though. Galactica does it with aplomb though. It’s one of those series, though I hated to see and, it probably would’ve watched it for another five years if they continued making it.
